German Colonial History
German colonial history primarily took place during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when Germany established colonies in Africa, the Pacific, and Asia. Key territories included present-day Namibia, Cameroon, Tanzania, and parts of the Solomon Islands and New Guinea. German colonization involved economic exploitation and the imposition of German culture, often leading to conflicts and significant local resistance. Notably, the Herero and Namaqua genocides in Namibia marked a dark chapter in this history. Following World War I, Germany lost its colonies, resulting in a drastic reevaluation of its colonial legacy and its impact on the colonized societies.
