French West Africa

French West Africa was a federation of eight French colonial territories in West Africa from the early 20th century until the mid-20th century. It included modern countries like Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. Established to streamline administration and economic policies, it aimed to foster agricultural and industrial development while promoting French culture. However, it was also marked by exploitation and resistance movements seeking independence. The federation lasted until the 1960s, when most territories gained independence, transitioning from colonial rule to self-governance and ultimately shaping their own national identities.
