food chain

A food chain is a sequence that shows how energy and nutrients move through an ecosystem. It begins with producers, like plants, which create their own food using sunlight. Next come herbivores, animals that eat these plants. Then, there are carnivores, which consume herbivores, and finally, top predators, which have no natural enemies. Decomposers, like fungi and bacteria, break down dead organisms, returning nutrients to the soil. This interconnected web of eating and being eaten illustrates the flow of energy and how all living things depend on each other for survival.
