ecological pyramid

An ecological pyramid is a visual representation that shows how energy, matter, or number of organisms decrease as you move up through different levels of a food chain. The base represents producers like plants that capture energy from the sun. The next levels are consumers—herbivores that eat plants, and predators that eat herbivores. Each level has less energy and fewer organisms, illustrating the transfer of energy and nutrients. This helps us understand the flow of resources in an ecosystem and why there are usually more plants than animals, and more herbivores than predators.
