Familial Mediterranean Fever

Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is a genetic disorder that primarily affects people from Mediterranean regions, such as those of Jewish, Arab, or Turkish descent. It causes recurrent episodes of fever and painful inflammation, particularly in the abdomen and joints. These episodes can last from a few hours to several days and may occur every few weeks or months. The condition is caused by mutations in a gene called MEFV. While there is no cure, treatment with anti-inflammatory medications can help manage symptoms and prevent complications. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for maintaining a good quality of life.
