Faisal I of Iraq (1885-1933) was the first king of modern Iraq, ruling from 1921 until his death in 1933. He played a crucial role in establishing Iraq as an independent kingdom after World War I, when the Ottoman Empire collapsed. Originally a prince of the Arab Kingdom of Syria, Faisal advocated for Arab unity and independence. His reign focused on modernizing the country, promoting education, and navigating complex ethnic and religious divisions. Despite challenges, he is often remembered for his efforts to unify Iraq and lay the groundwork for its future as a nation.
