Emirate of Afghanistan
The Emirate of Afghanistan, established in the 19th century, is a political and religious state that has gone through various changes, primarily during the time of the Taliban's rule. It is characterized by its focus on Islamic governance, led by an Emir who has both political and religious authority. The term gained prominence in the late 1990s when the Taliban declared the country an Emirate, emphasizing strict interpretations of Islamic law. Following the U.S. invasion in 2001, the Emirate was dissolved but was re-established in 2021 when the Taliban regained control. It remains a critical player in regional and global politics.
