Mullah Mohammad Omar

Mullah Mohammad Omar was the founder and leader of the Taliban, an Islamist militant group that ruled Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001. Known for his strict interpretation of Islamic law, Omar emerged as a prominent figure during Afghanistan's civil war and rose to power with the help of the Pakistani military. Under his leadership, the Taliban imposed harsh regulations, suppressing women's rights and banning various forms of entertainment. Following the U.S. invasion in response to the 9/11 attacks, Omar fled and became a fugitive, remaining a symbolic leader for the Taliban until his death in 2013.
