Emergentism

Emergentism, in the philosophy of mind, suggests that consciousness is not just a product of our brain's physical properties, but emerges as a complex system. When our brain's billions of neurons interact, consciousness arises much as music emerges from the combined notes in a symphony. This implies that, while the mind depends on the brain, it also has novel properties not predictable from understanding individual neurons. It's like baking a cake, the final taste isn't just the combination of ingredients, but something new and distinct that emerges from their interaction.
