Edwin Armstrong was an American inventor and engineer best known for developing the FM (frequency modulation) radio technology in the 1930s. His innovations significantly improved sound quality and reduced static interference in radio broadcasting, making it possible to transmit clearer audio over longer distances. Armstrong's work also included advancements in superheterodyne receivers and regenerative circuits. Despite his groundbreaking contributions, he struggled with patent disputes and challenges in commercialization. His legacy is celebrated in the fields of radio and telecommunications, impacting how we experience audio broadcasting today. Armstrong was posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
