Dark Ages

The Dark Ages in Ancient Greek history, roughly from 1100 to 800 BCE, followed the fall of the Mycenaean civilization. This period was marked by a decline in population, trade, and literacy, with many Greek city-states experiencing instability. Fewer written records exist, leading to the term "Dark Ages." Despite this, the period laid the groundwork for future developments, including the rise of city-states like Athens and Sparta, the emergence of Greek culture, and the eventual adoption of the alphabet. It ultimately set the stage for the flourishing of Classical Greece in the following centuries.
