Columbian Exchange

The Columbian Exchange refers to the widespread transfer of plants, animals, people, diseases, and technology between the Americas and the rest of the world following Christopher Columbus's voyages in the late 15th century. This exchange drastically reshaped the diets and agriculture of both the Old World (Europe, Africa, Asia) and the New World (Americas). For example, foods like potatoes and tomatoes were introduced to Europe, while crops like wheat and livestock were brought to the Americas. Unfortunately, this exchange also included the spread of diseases that devastated indigenous populations in the Americas.
