Colombian Independence

Colombian independence refers to the struggle for freedom from Spanish colonial rule that occurred in the early 19th century. It was part of a broader wave of independence movements across Latin America. Key figures like Simón Bolívar and Francisco de Miranda led efforts to resist Spanish control. The movement gained momentum after the 1810 revolution, culminating in the Battle of Boyacá in 1819, which secured victory for the independence fighters. Colombia officially declared independence on July 20, 1810, but it took years of conflict to solidify that freedom, which was achieved by the mid-1820s.
