Independencia de Colombia

Independencia de Colombia refers to the process by which Colombia separated from Spanish rule, culminating in its sovereignty. Beginning in the early 19th century, various local leaders and citizens believed Colombia should govern itself and end colonial control. Inspired by other independence movements in Latin America, they organized uprisings and battles, culminating in the declaration of independence on July 20, 1810. After years of conflict and negotiations, Colombia officially became an independent nation in 1819, ending over three centuries of Spanish domination, and establishing its own government and identity.
