CIN (Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia)
Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN) refers to abnormal changes in the cells on the surface of the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus. It is usually caused by persistent infection with certain strains of human papillomavirus (HPV). CIN is classified into three grades: CIN 1 (mild changes), CIN 2 (moderate changes), and CIN 3 (severe changes). While CIN itself is not cancer, it can develop into cervical cancer if left untreated. Regular screening, such as Pap tests, helps detect CIN early, allowing for monitoring or treatment to prevent progression to cancer.
