Cervical Cytology Guidelines

Cervical cytology guidelines provide recommendations for screening and managing cervical cancer risks. Generally, women should start getting Pap tests at age 21, regardless of sexual history. From ages 21 to 29, Pap tests are recommended every three years. For women 30 to 65, a Pap test combined with an HPV test every five years is preferred, or a Pap test alone every three years. After age 65, screening may no longer be necessary if previous results were normal. These guidelines help detect changes early, ensuring timely intervention and reducing cervical cancer risk.
