AGC (Atypical Glandular Cells)

Atypical Glandular Cells (AGC) are abnormal cells found in the glandular tissue of the cervix or uterus during a Pap test. Glandular cells produce mucus and other fluids, and their abnormal appearance can indicate changes in the cells that might be benign, or associated with infections, or more serious conditions like precancer or cancer. Detecting AGC prompts further tests to determine the cause and appropriate treatment. It’s important because it can be an early sign of possible health issues, but does not necessarily mean cancer is present. Follow-up with a healthcare provider is recommended for further assessment.
