Chondromalacia patella
Chondromalacia patella, commonly known as "runner's knee," is a condition characterized by the softening and damage of the cartilage on the underside of the kneecap (patella). This can lead to pain, swelling, and difficulty in knee movement, especially when climbing stairs or sitting for long periods. It often results from overuse, injury, or misalignment of the knee. Treatment options usually include rest, physical therapy, exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee, and, in severe cases, surgery. Managing activity levels and maintaining a healthy weight can also help alleviate symptoms.
