Chondral Defect

A chondral defect refers to damage or injury to the cartilage that covers the ends of bones in a joint. Cartilage is a smooth, flexible tissue that helps joints move easily and absorbs shock. When this cartilage is damaged, it can lead to pain, swelling, and reduced movement in the joint. Chondral defects may result from injuries, wear and tear due to aging, or certain medical conditions. Treatment options vary and can include physical therapy, medications, or in some cases, surgery to repair or replace the damaged cartilage.
