Microfracture

Microfracture is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to repair damaged cartilage in joints. During the procedure, a surgeon creates tiny holes or cracks in the underlying bone at the injured site. This stimulates the body’s natural healing response, encouraging new cartilage to grow from blood and bone marrow cells. The new tissue is usually fibrous and not as smooth as original cartilage, but it helps reduce pain and improve joint function. Microfracture is commonly used for small cartilage defects in the knee and other joints, aiming to restore joint health and delay further degeneration.
