Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT)
The Chinese Nationalist Party, or Kuomintang (KMT), is a political party in China that was founded in 1912. It played a crucial role in the early years of the Republic of China, promoting nationalism and modernization. The KMT initially fought against warlords and later the Communist Party in a civil war. After losing to the Communists in 1949, the KMT retreated to Taiwan, where it ruled until democratization in the 1980s. Today, the KMT remains influential in Taiwanese politics, advocating for relations with mainland China and maintaining Taiwan's status as a separate entity.
