Chinese Civil War

The Chinese Civil War was a conflict fought between 1927 and 1949, primarily between the Nationalist government (Kuomintang or KMT) and the Communist Party of China (CPC). After years of fighting, the war was interrupted by the Japanese invasion during World War II. Following the war, the civil conflict resumed, with the Communists under Mao Zedong ultimately prevailing in 1949, leading to the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. The Nationalists retreated to Taiwan. This war significantly shaped modern Chinese history and influenced global politics during the Cold War era.
