Cardiac stents

Cardiac stents are small, tube-like devices placed in narrowed or blocked arteries of the heart to keep them open and ensure proper blood flow. When arteries become narrowed due to plaque buildup, it can lead to heart problems. A stent is usually inserted during a procedure called angioplasty, where a balloon expands the artery, and the stent is left in place to provide support. This helps reduce chest pain, improves heart function, and lowers the risk of serious events like heart attacks. Stents are typically made of metal or polymer materials and may be coated with medication to prevent re-narrowing.
