Bloodletting

Bloodletting is an ancient medical practice that involves withdrawing blood from a patient to cure or prevent illness. Historically, it was believed that imbalances in bodily fluids, or "humors," caused various health issues, and removing blood could restore balance. This practice was common until the 19th century but has since been discredited by modern medicine, which recognizes that it often did more harm than good. Today, bloodletting is rarely used and is limited to specific medical conditions, such as certain blood disorders, where controlled removal of blood can be beneficial.
