Battle of the Teutoburg Forest

The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, fought in 9 AD, was a crucial conflict between the Roman Empire and an alliance of Germanic tribes. Led by the Roman general Publius Quinctilius Varus, three Roman legions were ambushed in a forest by tribal leader Arminius, who had previously served as an ally to Rome. The Romans suffered a devastating defeat, losing around 20,000 soldiers. This battle ended Roman attempts to expand into Germania and marked a significant turning point, solidifying the Rhine River as the boundary of the Roman Empire in the north.
