Cherusci

The Cherusci were a Germanic tribe living in what is now northern Germany during the early centuries AD. They played a significant role in resisting Roman expansion, most famously under their leader Arminius, who led an ambush against Roman legions in the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD, a pivotal battle that halted Roman advances into Germania. The Cherusci were part of the broader Germanic cultural group and contributed to the shaping of early German regional identities. Over time, their influence diminished as Germanic tribes evolved and merged into later medieval peoples.
