Battle of Salamis
The Battle of Salamis, fought in 480 BC during the Greco-Persian Wars, was a pivotal naval engagement between the Greek city-states and the Persian Empire. After suffering defeat at Thermopylae, the Greeks, led by Athenian general Themistocles, lured the larger Persian fleet into the narrow straits of Salamis. There, the Greeks used their smaller, more maneuverable ships to outmaneuver and defeat the Persian forces. This victory significantly weakened Persian naval power and boosted Greek morale, ultimately contributing to the end of the Persian invasion and the preservation of Greek independence.
