The Battle of Artaxata, fought in 58 BC, was a significant conflict between the Roman general Lucullus and the Armenian king Tigranes II. It occurred during Rome's military campaigns in the Eastern Mediterranean. Lucullus aimed to weaken Tigranes, who had allied with Mithridates VI of Pontus. The battle resulted in a Roman victory, allowing Lucullus to capture Artaxata, the Armenian capital. This defeat weakened Tigranes' power and established Roman influence in the region.
