
Artaxias I
Artaxias I was a prominent king of ancient Armenia, reigning from around 190 to 160 BC. He is best known for establishing the Artaxiad dynasty and expanding Armenian territory during his rule. Under his leadership, Armenia became a significant regional power, asserting independence from foreign influences, notably the Seleucid Empire. Artaxias I is also credited with promoting the development of cities and infrastructure, including the founding of the city of Artaxata, which became the capital. His reign marked a crucial period that laid the foundations for the future strength and identity of Armenia in the ancient world.
