Tigranes the Great was a king of Armenia who ruled from 95 to 55 BC. He is known for expanding the Armenian Empire to its greatest territorial extent, incorporating parts of modern-day Turkey, Iran, and Syria. Tigranes sought to establish Armenia as a major regional power and was allied with the Roman Republic at times. His capital, Tigranocerta, was a vibrant city featuring a mix of cultures. Tigranes' reign ended with a defeat by the Roman general Pompey, leading to Armenia’s decline. He is remembered for his ambitious vision and military achievements in ancient history.
