ATP-CP system
The ATP-CP system, also known as the phosphagen system, is a way your body generates quick energy for short bursts of activity, like sprinting or weightlifting. It uses adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of cells, which provides immediate energy, and creatine phosphate (CP), which helps replenish ATP. This system works for activities lasting about 10 seconds or less, allowing for rapid, powerful movements before the body needs to switch to other energy sources. It's essential for high-intensity performance but depletes quickly, requiring rest to recover and recharge energy stores.
