Ashur
Ashur is an ancient Mesopotamian city and was the capital of the Assyrian Empire. Located in modern-day Iraq, it was founded around 2400 BCE and named after the god Ashur, who was the chief deity of the Assyrian people. The city was significant for its monumental architecture, including temples and palaces, and for being a cultural and administrative center. Ashur played a crucial role in the development of Assyrian society, politics, and military power until it declined after the fall of the Assyrian Empire in the 7th century BCE.
