Arverni
The Arverni were a powerful Celtic tribe that lived in ancient Gaul, primarily in what is now central France, around the late Iron Age and into the early Roman period. Known for their agricultural skills and warrior culture, they played a significant role in resisting Roman expansion. Their most notable leader, Vercingetorix, united various Gallic tribes in a revolt against Julius Caesar during the Gallic Wars around 52 BCE. Although ultimately defeated, Vercingetorix became a symbol of Gallic resistance and national pride. The Arverni’s legacy is reflected in the cultural and historical identity of the Auvergne region in France today.
