Gaul
Gaul was a region in Western Europe inhabited by Celtic tribes during ancient times, covering modern-day France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, and parts of Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany. It is most notably associated with the Roman military campaigns led by Julius Caesar in the 1st century BCE, which resulted in its conquest and incorporation into the Roman Empire. Gaul's culture, language, and social structure significantly influenced European history, and its legacy persists in the French language and culture today. The term "Gauls" refers to the people living in this region before and during Roman rule.
