Anarchism in the Spanish Revolution
Anarchism during the Spanish Revolution (1936-1939) played a significant role in the struggle against fascism and government oppression. Anarchists sought a society without hierarchies or centralized authority, advocating for direct democracy and worker self-management. In Spain, they organized labor unions, collectivized agriculture and industries, and promoted social equality. The Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) was a key anarchist union that mobilized workers to seize control during the conflict. Despite their efforts to establish a free society, the anarchists faced challenges from both fascists and other leftist factions, ultimately leading to their marginalization following the war's end.
