Mujeres Libres
Mujeres Libres was a Spanish organization founded during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) that aimed to promote women's rights, education, and social equality. It sought to empower women, especially working-class women, by providing them with opportunities for learning, self-defense, and participation in political and social life. Rooted in anarchist principles, Mujeres Libres focused on ending gender oppression and fostering autonomous female communities, complementing broader efforts to resist fascism and support social revolution during that turbulent period in Spain's history.
