Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a serious health condition caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV attacks the body's immune system, specifically targeting CD4 cells, which help fight infections. Over time, the virus can weaken the immune system to the point where the body becomes vulnerable to opportunistic infections or certain cancers, which define the stage of AIDS. AIDS is the final and severe phase of HIV infection, and while there is no cure, treatments are available that can help manage the virus, allowing individuals to live longer, healthier lives.
