long-term non-progressors

Long-term non-progressors are individuals infected with HIV who, without treatment, do not develop AIDS or experience significant health decline for many years, often decades. Their immune systems effectively control the virus, preventing it from damaging their health as rapidly as most others. Researchers study them to understand how some people's bodies naturally resist HIV's progression, which can provide insights for developing better treatments or vaccines. These individuals remain relatively healthy-long term, despite being infected with the virus.
