A. Philip Randolph

A. Philip Randolph was an influential African American labor leader and civil rights activist in the 20th century. Born in 1889, he founded the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first labor union for black workers. Randolph's advocacy helped improve working conditions and fight for racial equality in the workplace. He was also a key figure in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963, which helped raise awareness about civil rights issues. His efforts bridged labor rights and civil rights, making him a significant figure in both movements.
