Witold Pilecki

Witold Pilecki was a Polish soldier and resistance leader during World War II. He is best known for intentionally getting arrested and sent to Auschwitz concentration camp to gather intelligence about the atrocities happening there. While imprisoned, he reported on the conditions and helped organize a resistance movement among the inmates. Pilecki's detailed accounts of the Holocaust were among the first to expose the true horrors of the Nazi regime. After the war, he continued to support Polish independence but was eventually captured by the communist government and executed in 1948. His bravery and sacrifice remain notable in history.
