Wajid Ali Shah
Wajid Ali Shah was the last Nawab of Awadh (Oudh), a region in northern India, who ruled from 1847 until 1856. He is often remembered for his patronage of the arts, culture, and music, which flourished during his reign, making Awadh a center for cultural life. His rule came to an end when the British East India Company annexed Awadh, claiming it was mismanaged. Wajid Ali Shah was exiled to Calcutta, where he continued to influence arts before his death in 1887. His legacy endures in the traditions of dance and music he promoted.
