State of Awadh
The State of Awadh, also known as Oudh, was a princely region in northern India during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was a culturally rich and prosperous territory ruled primarily by Nawabs, with Lucknow as its capital. Known for its unique language, cuisine, architecture, and music, Awadh played a significant role in regional politics and culture. In 1856, it was annexed by the British East India Company, ending its independence. Today, the legacy of Awadh influences the cultural identity of parts of Uttar Pradesh, especially in its traditions, language, and historical sites.
