Viet Minh
The Viet Minh was a national independence coalition formed in 1941 in Vietnam, primarily led by the Communist Party under Ho Chi Minh. Its main goal was to gain independence from French colonial rule and later fight against Japanese occupation during World War II. Following the war, the Viet Minh became prominent in the struggle for Vietnamese independence, leading to the declaration of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945. Their actions eventually sparked the First Indochina War against French forces, significantly shaping Vietnam's modern history and contributing to the eventual division of the country.
