Valois

The Valois were a branch of the Capetian Dynasty that ruled France from the late 14th to the late 16th century. They came to power after the direct line of the Capetians ended, primarily due to issues of succession. The Valois kings, such as Charles V and Francis I, oversaw significant events, including the Hundred Years’ War and the Renaissance in France. Their reign was marked by political struggles, internal conflicts, and the rise of powerful nobility, ultimately leading to the French Wars of Religion. The Valois dynasty ended with Henry III in 1589, paving the way for the Bourbon dynasty.
