Direct Capetians

The Direct Capetians were the original branch of the Capetian Dynasty, which ruled France from 987 to 1328. Founded by Hugh Capet, they established a line of kings that included well-known monarchs like Louis IX and Philip IV. Their reign marked a shift from feudalism to a more centralized monarchy, strengthening royal authority and the French state. The Direct Capetians maintained control through strategic marriages and alliances, ensuring their lineage continued for over 300 years, which laid the groundwork for modern France. The dynasty eventually ended with the death of Charles IV, leading to the Valois branch succeeding them.
