Battle of Bouvines
The Battle of Bouvines, fought on July 27, 1214, near Tournai in present-day Belgium, was a decisive conflict during the medieval power struggle between the Kingdom of France and a coalition that included the Holy Roman Emperor Otto IV and King John of England. The French forces, led by King Philip II, achieved a significant victory, strengthening royal authority and consolidating France’s territorial gains. This battle is often viewed as a turning point in the medieval political landscape, as it diminished the influence of the German emperors and solidified the French monarchy's power.
