Union between Sweden and Norway
The personal union between Sweden and Norway lasted from 1814 to 1905. After the Napoleonic Wars, Norway was ceded to Sweden while maintaining its own constitution and autonomy. Both countries shared a monarch, meaning they had a king in common, but each had its own government and laws. The arrangement aimed to balance power and promote stability. However, tensions arose over issues like representation and language. In 1905, Norway peacefully dissolved the union, choosing to establish full independence, which was recognized by Sweden. This marked the end of a significant chapter in the histories of both nations.
