U-Boat Campaign
The U-Boat Campaign refers to Germany's use of submarines, known as U-boats, during World War I and World War II to disrupt Allied shipping. These submarines targeted merchant and military vessels in the Atlantic Ocean, aiming to cut off supplies to Britain and other Allies. The campaign included unrestricted submarine warfare, meaning U-boats would sink ships without warning. This tactic led to significant losses for the Allies, but also drew international condemnation, particularly after the sinking of civilian ships like the Lusitania. Ultimately, advancements in anti-submarine warfare helped diminish the effectiveness of U-Boat operations.
