Tsunamis

Tsunamis are large, powerful ocean waves caused primarily by underwater earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides. When the seafloor shifts suddenly, it displaces a massive amount of water, creating waves that travel across the ocean at high speeds. As they approach shallow coastal waters, these waves slow down and grow in height, sometimes reaching over 100 feet. Tsunamis can cause devastating flooding and destruction when they make landfall. Unlike regular waves, tsunamis are not just surface disturbances; they involve the entire water column, which makes them particularly dangerous. Early warning systems are crucial for minimizing their impact.
