Tohoku earthquake and tsunami

The Tohoku earthquake and tsunami occurred on March 11, 2011, off the northeastern coast of Japan. It was a powerful 9.0 magnitude earthquake, one of the strongest ever recorded. The quake triggered a massive tsunami, with waves reaching heights of up to 40 meters (130 feet), devastating coastal towns. The disaster caused widespread destruction, loss of life, and significant damage to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, leading to nuclear contamination. In total, thousands died, and many more were displaced, marking it as one of the most catastrophic natural disasters in recent history.
